Happy Birthday Montgomery County! An Annual Celebration

CELEBRATE MONTGOMERY COUNTY’s 236th Birthday! 9/9/2012 Montgomery County turns 236 years old in September. Scouts and their families can celebrate the birthday in style at the Montgomery County Historical Society’s annual party, with crafts, games, music, lectures, tours, re-enactors, kid-friendly archaeology, and birthday cake. The free, family-friendly party is always a great time and is a great way for the whole family to learn more about the history of our community. The party is at the The Beall-Dawson Historical Park, 103 W. Montgomery Ave., Rockville, on Sunday, September 9, from 2 to 5 p.m. This event can also give a Scout armed with a camera a great start on requirement 8 of the Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge, which is required for Eagle: 8. Develop a public presentation (such as a video, slide show, speech, digital presentation, or photo exhibit) about important and unique aspects of your community. Include information about the history, cultures, and ethnic groups of your community; its best features and popular places where people gather; and the challenges it faces.
