For Immediate Release: 9/21/2015 Applications to be a board member for the new Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) are being accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, October 2. The board members will be tasked with marketing Montgomery County, attracting businesses and investments to the County, growing entrepreneurship, as well as helping existing businesses grow and succeed. Inquiries and applications should be sent to Lily Qi, Director of Special Projects, Office of the County Executive, lily.qi@montgomerycountymd.gov or 240-777-2524, Office of the County Executive, 101 Monroe St., 2nd floor, Rockville, MD 20850. Further details can be found on the Restructuring Economic Development Web page. In July, the Montgomery County Council approved legislation replacing the County’s Department of Economic Development with a new nonprofit economic development corporation led by an 11-member volunteer board of directors. The move was made to reform the economic development process in the County, enhance private sector involvement and provide a more nimble organizational structure to better respond to market opportunities. MCEDC will also be responsible for drafting its bylaws. The legislation requires the bylaws to include prohibitions against self-dealing and personal enrichment as well as restrictions about other possible ethical concerns. The council will have the opportunity to review the bylaws. # # # Release ID: 15-340 Media Contact: Ohene Gyapong 240-777-6507
