For Immediate Release: Thursday, January 21, 2016 A “snow emergency” is being declared for Montgomery County to take effect on Friday, January 22 at 3 p.m. During a County-declared Snow Emergency parking is prohibited along County roads signed and marked as a “Snow Emergency Route” and all vehicles traveling on a roadway must be equipped with all-weather tires or chains. Fees for County parking garages and lots will be waived from noon on Friday, January 22 through at least 9 a.m. on Monday, January 25. Community members are encouraged to take advantage of those facilities for off-street parking. Parking is already free during weekends in County-owned garages and lots. Because the State of Maryland has declared a “State of Emergency,” taxicabs operating in Montgomery County during the County-declared snow emergency are allowed to charge $2.50 extra per trip. To aid in snow removal on all County roads, it is advised that all vehicles be parked off-street in a driveway or garage if at all possible. Cars that must park on the street, should be parked on the even-numbered side of the street. Cars parked in courts or cul-de-sacs should park only on the left side as a driver enters the cul-de-sac. Cars should not park at the center of the cul-de-sac. For the latest snow-related information, see the County’s website at www.montgomerycountymd.gov. and follow us on Facebook and Twitter. The County’s informational call center, MC311 will open at 6 a.m. on Friday, January 22 and remain open throughout the weekend. Contact MC311 by calling 3-1-1 or 240-777-0311, or through their website at www.MC311.com. ### Release ID: 16-025 Media Contact: Lucille Baur 240-777-6507
