Montgomery County Public Libraries will present workshop on Job & Career Assistance for Skilled Immigrants on Thursday, Nov. 17

Theo tin quận Montgomery

For Immediate Release: Friday, November 4, 2016 One of the goals of Montgomery County Public Libraries’ (MCPL) FY 2017-2020 Strategic Plan is to connect new and existing residents to resources that will enable them to transfer skills and credentials to Montgomery County. Under its workforce and business development umbrella, MCPL will present a workshop on Job & Career Assistance for Skilled Immigrants. The workshop is presented in partnership with Upwardly Global, a national non-profit that helps work-authorized, skilled immigrants rebuild their professional careers in the U.S. The organization provides professional job-search training as well as access to employers with global talent needs. To date, Upwardly Global has coached more than 10,000 skilled immigrants and assisted more than 3,800 skilled immigrants to get back into their career fields. Many internationally trained professionals find it challenging to continue their careers once in the U.S. – due to a variety of factors – including a lack of familiarity with the U.S. employment process and lack of professional networks in the U.S. “We see so many customers in our branches who have credentials from their home countries, but face challenges finding work in their professional fields here in the County,” said MPCL Director Parker Hamilton. “We hope this session will offer needed resources and a pathway to the types of jobs for which their education and experience has prepared them.” Immigrants in Montgomery County with professional-level backgrounds who possess credentials from abroad who want to continue working in their chosen professional fields in the U.S. are encouraged to attend. The workshop will take place on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 12 noon at the Silver Spring Library located at 900 Wayne Avenue. The session is FREE but registration is required.
