For Immediate Release: Monday, January 29, 2018 February is Maryland Craft Beer Lovers Month and the Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control (DLC) is showing its support for the craft beer industry by planning retail store tastings and discounts throughout the month. “The DLC understands the benefits that local breweries bring. They have a positive impact on both our economy and our nightlife. These businesses bring an increase in jobs and state tax revenue but beer is also a beverage that brings people together,” said Robert Dorfman, DLC director. “Each brewery has a story that speaks to Maryland’s greatness.” The DLC has long supported local brewers with legislative support, and by highlighting local products at its retail stores. Recently, the DLC added a one-click, browsable, Maryland-made craft beer section to its online product search portal. Throughout the month of February, visit DLC stores for tastings from local favorites such as Flying Dog, Evolution, and Heavy Seas. This is an opportunity for customers to retry old favorites and discover new ones. A Maryland Made logo, depicting the Maryland flag, will highlight local craft brews on shelves and will mark a ten percent discount at the register. The DLC has also partnered with local brewers to give educational seminars to retail store staff. The DLC is proud to support this local, rising industry that has grown over the last decade. There are now over 70 craft breweries in the state.
