  RECREATION SPECIALIST                                                   CLOSING DATE:  September 22, 2012 Job Location: Olney, Maryland   This is a supervisory position for which the employee will be responsible for programming, marketing, recruitment, hiring and training of part-time seasonal staff such as coaches, lifeguards, instructors, and cashiers for one of the County’s four indoor swim centers.  Other duties include:  scheduling and supervising the aforementioned staff; supervising the maintenance of the facility and all water treatment and filtration equipment; monitoring collection of all revenues, admissions, pass sales, lesson and swim team fees etc.; overseeing the deposits of income and preparation of daily cash balance reports; ordering all swimming pool chemicals and other supplies; handling public inquiries, suggestions and concerns.  Responsibilities will include direction of facility operations with at least one major program, and may include section wide program coordination and supervision of an outdoor pool.   NOTE:  This work requires evening, weekend and holiday work.   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Please review the minimum qualifications listed for this position.  Applicants must meet all the minimum qualifications in order to be considered eligible.  If you do not meet all the listed minimum qualifications your application will not receive further consideration.   Experience:  Four (4) years of related professional experience in the recreation programming field. Education:    Bachelor’s degree in recreation or related field. Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Licensure:    Montgomery County Pool Operators License or equivalent, First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard Training.  Certifications need not be current, but in order to receive credit, applicants must have had these certifications in the past, and will be expected to obtain current certifications if hired. Selected candidate will be required to complete a background investigation and medical evaluation prior to appointment.   PREFERRED CRITERIA Water Safety Instructor.  Lifeguard Instructor.  Extensive knowledge and experience with pool filters, disinfectant equipment.  Supervisory experience of large indoor and/or outdoor pool operations, experience in budgeting and expenditure control.  Strong background in a variety of aquatic programs.  Ability to operate POS, computer systems, and perform basic pool chemical tests.   SELECTION PROCESS:  The selection process for these positions will consist of an evaluation of training and experience as presented on the application form and any attachments.  The applications of those meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent and relevancy of experience related to the responsibilities of the position.  To assure that you receive credit for your training and experience, applicants must indicate on their applications or attachments specific examples of education and experience, which are directly related to the areas below:  

• Effective communication
• At least 12 months experience in an aquatic facility
• Experience supervising a program
• Experience in supervising seasonal staff (part-time) employees
• Experience and knowledge of pool mechanical and disinfectant systems
