SOURCE: Montgomery County For Immediate Release: 4/1/2013 Renters and Homeowners are Invited to Montgomery County 13th Annual Housing Fair and Financial Fitness Day The Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) invites all County residents—renters, homeowners, and anyone with housing questions—to attend the 13th Annual Montgomery County Housing Fair and Financial Fitness Day. The fair will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 30 p.m. at the Bohrer Park Activity Center, Summit Hall Farm, 506 S. Frederick Ave., in Gaithersburg. Fairgoers will have access to a wealth of useful information about housing programs and resources in Montgomery County, as well as information about eligibility for federal and state-level housing assistance. Special features of this year’s fair include: • Free credit reports provided on site; • Homeownership assistance by certified counselors, attorneys, and lenders tailored to fairgoers’ specific needs; • Educational resources on the pros and cons of renting versus buying; and • Information on managing money, credit, and utilities. On-site loan modifications from the major lenders will also be available. “We welcome at the fair anyone in the market for reliable housing information—prospective first-time homeowners, senior citizens who want to rent or buy, veterans returning to the area from overseas, county residents eager to refinance, and persons who have been rejected for mortgage relief by their lenders and want to explore their current options,” said Myriam Torrico, DHCA administrator of Community Programs. “Whatever your housing situation, you will be able to receive sound advice and personal attention.” Attendees can also receive one-on-one assistance from Housing Fair sponsors and exhibitors. Last year more than 90 sponsors and exhibitors participated—corporations, businesses, banks, realtors, credit unions; government officials, education groups and 501(c)3 nonprofits. The fair is organized by the Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs in partnership with the Housing Fair Planning Committee whose members include: the cities of Gaithersburg, Rockville and Takoma Park; Asian-American Homeownership Counseling; Housing and Community Initiatives, Inc.; Housing Initiative Partnership, Inc.; Housing Opportunities Commission; Latino Economic Development Corporation; Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development; Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services; Montgomery County Department of Recreation; Montgomery County Office of Human Rights; and the office of U.S. Congressman Chris Van Hollen.
