For Immediate Release: Monday, October 3, 2016 Montgomery County Public Libraries’ Food for Fines program will be held October 16 through 30. Food for Fines offers customers the opportunity to earn $1for each donated food item toward payment of existing library fines. The donations will go to the Manna Food Center, a local non-profit that works to collect and distribute donated foods to those in need in the community. The program is offered during Montgomery County’s Community Service Week. While the program provides a reprieve to customers who have existing fines or hold fees, everyone is invited to participate in the food drive. Food items for donation should be taken to the Circulation desk at any one of the 21 branch librariesduring normal operation hours. “Our library customers are always willing to help out. Our Food for Fines program not only gives a break to our customers with fines, but also does a great community service,” said MCPL Director Parker Hamilton. “Nutritious foods, with an extended shelf life, such as brown rice, whole-grain pasta, canned vegetables and fruit, and infant formula and baby food can ensure families have enough to eat.” A suggested list of food that will serve the greatest need is available athttp://www.mannafood.org/give-food/most-needed-foods-list/.
