City Hiring Seasonal Basketball Officials for Youth & Teen Sports

Posted: October 20, 2016 The City of Gaithersburg Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture is accepting applications for seasonal basketball officials to referee youth and teen basketball games. Leagues play Friday nights and Saturdays beginning in January 2017. Games take place at various locations throughout the City. The application deadline is before 5 p.m. on January 6. Responsibilities and duties include supervising games, organizing supplies and equipment, inspecting playing surface and equipment, maintaining appropriate level of control, fairness, and consistency in all competitive situations, resolving participant conflicts, attending scheduled training or evaluation sessions, keeping proper records, and assisting in creating a positive and encouraging environment. Basic basketball experience and knowledge is required, and you must be 16 years of age or older to apply. Prior experience in officiating basketball games is preferred and at least two years of basketball officiating experience is required for refereeing games in the teen program.
