City Hiring Seasonal Staff for Water Park and Indoor Aquatic Center The City of Gaithersburg Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture is accepting applications for summer lifeguards and swim instructors for the Gaithersburg Water Park and Indoor Aquatic Center. The summer season begins Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 27, 2017 and runs through Labor Day, Monday, September 4, 2017, with opportunities to work at the indoor facility throughout the year. Responsibilities and duties include enforcing rules and regulations to keep all patrons safe in and around the water, preventing accidents and injuries, immediately responding to emergency situations, administering basic first aid, providing general information on aquatic activities to the public, teaching learn-to-swim classes, planning, developing and implementing all aspects of swim classes, attending training sessions and staff meetings, and assisting in creating a fun working environment. Applicants must be 15 years old and hold and maintain a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification. Applicants are also required to pass a skills test before hire, attend in-service trainings throughout employment, and perform water rescues and remove victims from the water in an emergency. Prior experience in a comparable aquatic facility is preferred.
