Posted: April 14, 2017In celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the City of Gaithersburg presents an exhibit featuring the artwork of the Harmonious Art Group through June 25, 2017, at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, 506 South Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg, Maryland. Viewing hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public is invited to meet the artists during a free Artists Reception on Sunday, May 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. This year celebrates the group’s 22nd Annual Exhibition of Chinese Calligraphy and Brush Painting. Thirteen members and five guest artists are exhibiting their works in traditional and contemporary Chinese styles. This year the group proudly presents two of its newest members, Zhenfang Ge and Larry Chung. The Harmonious Art Group was founded in 1995 by Bertrand Mao, master of Chinese Shan-Shui (Mountain-Water) and calligraphy, and John Wang, master of Chinese calligraphy and seal cutting, to share the beauty of this ancient art form with the community. The group’s mission is to promote the awareness of what the true spirit of Chinese painting holds, including the importance of balance and use of empty space and the understanding that traditional Shan-Shui is not a portrait of mountains but rather a composition of many elements of nature. Over the years members have incorporated new techniques and styles demonstrating the diversity of Chinese art.
