For Immediate Release: Monday, April 24, 2017 Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL), in partnership with Montgomery County Employees Federal Credit Union and the County’s Office of Consumer Protection, will offer free educational seminars and workshops on a variety of money-management topics during Money Smart Week® (April 22-29). During Money Smart Week®, MCPL will host the at the Chevy Chase, Damascus, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Long Branch, Olney, Rockville Memorial, and Silver Spring library branches. The free seminars are designed to help Montgomery County residents make informed decisions about their personal finances. The seminars will be presented by collaborating departments and outside organizations, including the County’s Office of Consumer Protection, the Montgomery County Employees Federal Credit Union, the Women’s Institute for A Secure Retirement, the Securities and Exchange Commission and Edelman Financial and the Society for Financial Awareness. “With financial literacy as a new strategic focus area for MCPL, we are thrilled to be participating in Money Smart Week® on a system-wide basis for the first time, and to be presenting so many free unbiased financial education workshops to help strengthen residents’ money management skills,” said MCPL Director Parker Hamilton. The programs offered will cover a wide variety of money-management topics including: preparing for retirement (Gaithersburg and Silver Spring), ins and outs of refinancing (Germantown), identity theft (Long Branch) women and retirement (Chevy Chase), investment products and associated risks (Gaithersburg and Silver Spring), Guess how many pennies (Olney) First-time home buying (Rockville Memorial) and much more.
