For Immediate Release: Wednesday, May 17, 2017 Montgomery County’s Office of Human Rights (OHR) and the Human Rights Commission will co-host an employment law and information seminar on Tuesday, May 23, from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park located at 506 S. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg. The County, State, and Federal Employment Law Updates & Information Breakfast will provide participants with information about updates on employment laws at every level with special emphasis on state and federal fair employment laws. There will also be updates and opportunities for questions concerning the new minimum wage and Earned Sick and Safe Leave County laws. Confirmed presenters include: Tralene Putman, administrator, Division of Labor and Industry, Employment Standards Service, DLLR will cover pay and wage issues in Montgomery County; Cleveland L. Horton II, deputy director, Maryland Civil Rights Commission will discuss the state of Maryland complaint process; Jeff Seaman, counsel, Whiteford, Taylor & Preston will look at emerging issues in state employment law; Natasha Abel, state and local program manager U.S. Equal Opportunity Employment Commission, Philadelphia District Office will cover emerging issues in federal employment law; and Jim Stowe, Montgomery County OHR will take questions and provide updates on the Earned Sick and Safe Leave Law. “This employment seminar will provide participants invaluable information and important legal updates for employers managing their workplace” said OHR Director James Stowe. “I encourage all employers, employment attorneys, and interested parties who have questions about changes in employment laws on the local, state and federal level to invest the time and plan on attending this very informative free seminar.” “Avoid expensive litigation by being informed of the compliance requirements in today’s workplace.” Sign language interpreter services will be provided only upon request with notice as far in advance as possible, and preferably three days prior to the event.
