For Immediate Release: Tuesday, December 19, 2017 The Community Action Agency’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), part of the Department of Health and Human Services, is partnering with WorkSource Montgomery to offer free financial education workshops in January. Learn about maximizing your refund on Wednesday, January 3, and learn about tax tips for self-employed individuals and small business owners, including Uber/Lyft drivers, on Tuesday, January 9. Sessions are from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the East County Regional Services Center, which is located at 3300 Briggs Chaney Road in Silver Spring. The partnership between Community Action VITA and WorkSource Montgomery is included in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) local plan. Community Action’s free tax program filed tax returns for over 2,200 Montgomery County households last year, returning $5.4 million in refunds and credits to taxpayers.
