For Immediate Release: Monday, July 16, 2018 The Silver Spring Innovation Center, located at 8070 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, is under new management and will soon be remodeled. Montgomery County is contracting out the management of its facility to Launch Workplaces, a company known for its hybrid workspace centers for small businesses and entrepreneurs in the region. “This is a win/win,” said County Executive Ike Leggett. “The transition to a private sector management firm is part of the County’s new strategy to foster private sector involvement when it comes to attracting and retaining businesses and growing the economy.” As part of the partnership, both Montgomery County and Launch Workplaces will be upgrading the 20,000-square-foot Innovation Center to benefit clients and to enhance operations. The facility can house about 20 digital media and technology start-up companies. The three-year contract expires June 30, 2021. “Flexible workspaces by their nature serve as innovation centers,” said Mike Kriel, chief executive officer of Launch Workplaces. “We strive to create a culture of innovation at all of our Launch Workplaces locations by supporting creative collaboration among entrepreneurs and small businesses. By partnering with Montgomery County to manage the Silver Spring Innovation Center powered by Launch, like-minded innovators can work in a space that encourages them to grow in an entrepreneurial community with a focus on educational programming and advancement.
