Celebrate Oktoberfest in Germantown
For Immediate Release: Thursday, October 3, 2019
Montgomery County residents can celebrate Oktoberfest in Germantown on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Town Center.
The community fun begins with an Oktoberfest Parade that takes off at 10 a.m. from 12900 Middlebrook Road and marches down Century Boulevard to Aircraft Drive. The parade will feature 30 units, including high school marching bands, cheerleaders, historical groups, elected officials and more.
County Councilmember Craig Rice, who represents Germantown, is the grand marshal of the parade. Fox 5 news anchor Wisdom Martin will be announcing from the grandstand in front of the BlackRock Center for the Arts, located at 12901 Town Commons Drive.
oktoberfestOktoberfest festivities officially begin after the parade at 11 a.m. and will include a beer garden, vendors and live music at the BlackRock Center for the Arts. The celebration will also include the following:
A presentation from County Councilmember Evan Glass is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at BlackRock’s outdoor stage;
The Salvation Army will host a bounce house, inflatables and children’s activities at 20021 Aircraft Drive;
Montgomery County Police are hosting an open house at 20000 Aircraft Drive;
The Germantown Volunteer Fire Department, located at 20001 Crystal Rock Drive, will open its doors for tours, rescue demonstrations, children’s activities and more;
The Germantown Community Flea Market will operate from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the MARC rail commuter lot at Germantown Road and Bowman Mill Drive; and
Look for Oktoberfest activities at The Greene Turtle at 19961 Century Boulevard and the Germantown Library at 19840 Century Boulevard.
The following streets will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to noon:
Middlebrook Road between Route 118 and Celebration Way;
Century Boulevard between Middlebrook Road and Cloverleaf Center Drive;
Town Commons Drive at Century Boulevard;
Pinnacle Drive at Century Boulevard;
Crystal Rock Drive between Century Boulevard and Rexmore Drive; and
Aircraft Drive between Century Boulevard and Crystal Rock Drive.
A free shuttle will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. between the parking lot of Montgomery College’s Germantown campus and the Germantown Transit Center on Aircraft Drive.
The Germantown Oktoberfest Committee includes BlackRock Center for the Arts, Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce, Germantown Alliance, Germantown Historical Society, Germantown Volunteer Fire Department, Holiday Inn Express, Montgomery College, Montgomery County, Peace of Hearts and Visit Montgomery.
