For Immediate Release: 7/15/2013 Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will participate in a public ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony to celebrate the opening of the newly-renovated Plum Gar Community Recreation Center on Saturday, July 20 at 11 a.m. The center is located at 19561 Scenery Drive in Germantown. “Ensuring that residents have a safe place to enjoy and participate in recreational activities is integral to our community,” said Leggett. “I remain committed to making sure that the County continues to move forward with renovations and construction of recreation facilities. I am very pleased that we are reopening the Plum Gar Community Recreation Center and look forward to the completion of the Scotland, Ross Boddy and Good Hope community recreation centers.” The $8.2 million renovation is the third recreation facility project that has been completed in the past three years. The Mid-County Community Recreation Center was opened in 2011 and the White Oak Community Recreation Center in 2012. The Plum Gar Community Recreation Center will provide a wide range of recreation and leisure programs for the East Germantown community. Facilities include a full-size gymnasium, 150-seat social hall, catering kitchen, conference room, game room, weight and exercise room, multipurpose activities room and a computer lab. Programs include a variety of activities and classes for all ages, an afterschool program, senior program, open gym sports, drop-in games, etc. “Opening a new facility is one of the most satisfying parts of my job,” said General Services Director David Dise. “I am very proud of the hard work and dedication of our Division of Building Design and Construction staff, who worked closely with the Recreation and Parks staff, to plan, design and construct this wonderful facility to make sure it will provide opportunities for residents to enjoy quality recreation programs and activities.” “It is a pleasure to celebrate this wonderful renovated facility,” said Recreation Director Gabe Albornoz. “In spite of challenging budget restraints in recent years, the County has remained steadfast in its commitment to continue to move forward with the planning, design, construction and opening of quality recreation facilities. I am very pleased with the Plum Gar renovation and I look forward to providing quality recreation programs and services to the Plum Gar community.” For more information, call 240-777-6821, or visit the Department of General Services website for details about the construction. # # # Release ID: 13-217 Media Contact: Judy Stiles 240-777-6875
