For Immediate Release: 3/31/2014 Renters and Homeowners Invited to Montgomery County’s 14th Annual Housing Fair and Financial Fitness Day The Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) invites all County residents to attend the 14th Annual Montgomery County Housing Fair and Financial Fitness Day to be held on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bohrer Park Activity Center, Summit Hall Farm, 506 S. Frederick Ave., Gaithersburg. Fairgoers will be able to access useful information from numerous exhibitors about housing programs and resources in the County, and meet one-on-one with major lenders conducting loan modifications on site. Special features of the fair include: • free credit reports and analyses; • free housing counseling and legal advice; • free information for renters looking for affordable housing; and • free class for prospective homebuyers. Interpretation services will be offered for Spanish-speaking residents, and the nonprofit organization Asian-American Home Ownership Counseling will be present to assist Asian residents. The fair will also feature entertainment for all ages and refreshments will be sold at a nominal cost. “We welcome anyone looking for reliable housing information – senior citizens, veterans, newcomers to the County, renters, homeowners, persons trying to decide whether to rent or buy, and people rejected for mortgage assistance in the past,” said Myriam Torrico, DHCA administrator of Community Programs. “Whatever your housing needs, you will be able to receive sound advice and personal attention at the fair.” The event is organized by the Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs in partnership with the Housing Fair Planning Committee whose members include: the cities of Gaithersburg, Rockville and Takoma Park; Asian-American Homeownership Counseling; Housing and Community Initiatives, Inc.; Housing Initiative Partnership, Inc.; Housing Opportunities Commission; Latino Economic Development Corporation; Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development; Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services; Montgomery County Department of Recreation; Montgomery County Office of Human Rights; and the office of U.S. Congressman Chris Van Hollen.
