Students are reminded that they can earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours through the projects. A full list of volunteer opportunities is available on the Volunteer Center website. Following are some of the opportunities available during April: All Month Long Montgomery Parks – Take part in clean ups, trail workdays, invasive weed removal and education events. Saturday, April 5 Alice Ferguson Foundation’s Potomac River Watershed Cleanup, 9 a.m. – Noon, DC Metro Area. Remove trash from hundreds of sites around the region. Rock Creek Conservancy, 9 a.m. – Noon, Countywide. Cleanup of Rock Creek and its tributaries and the parks and neighborhoods connected to Rock Creek Saturday, April 12 WSSC, 9 a.m. – Noon, Silver Spring. Pick up trash along the Patuxent. Little Falls Watershed Alliance, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Bethesda. Little Falls cleanup and invasive weed pull. Wednesday, April 16 Department of Environmental Protection, 1 – 4 p.m., Rockville. Plant 300 protection plants at stormwater management facility. Thursday, April 17 Department of Environmental Protection, 10 a.m. – Noon, Wheaton. Pick up and sort trash. Saturday, April 19 Montgomery County Road Runners Club, 9 a.m. – Noon, Kensington. Take part in the cleanup of the Rock Creek Trail, the Matthew Henson Trail and feeder paths as well as dry feeder streams, roadways, playgrounds and the Lake Needwood area. WSSC, 9 a.m. – Noon, Laurel. Remove invasive weeds to help allow trees and shrubs to grow. Saturday, April 26 Department of Environmental Protection, 10 a.m. – Noon, Germantown. Clean trash from water runoff at stormwater facility WSSC, 9 a.m. – Noon, Laurel. Remove invasive weeds that allow birds to nest properly and find food. C&O Canal Pride Day, 8:30 a.m. – Noon, Potomac. Help preserve historic buildings, improve grounds and plant trees.
