For Immediate Release: 5/4/2015 Montgomery County Recreation and the cities of Gaithersburg and Rockville will host a free Water Safety Day event on Friday, May 29 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Water Park at Bohrer Park, 512 S. Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg. The event will be held rain or shine. “As outdoor community pools prepare to open over the Memorial Day weekend, the timing is perfect to focus on water safety,” said County Executive Ike Leggett. “I encourage all families to participate in this event to learn effective ways to avoid unnecessary accidents.” The event will include information booths, lifeguard demonstrations, the proper use of personal flotation devices, how to safely assist someone struggling in the water, the importance of sunscreen to prevent skin damage and free swim lesson screenings. Anyone attending Water Safety Day who visits the various information booths can stay and enjoy a free swim. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
