For Immediate Release: 6/17/2015 Celebrate National Dump the Pump Day Tomorrow with MCDOT’s Commuter Services Join MCDOT’s Commuter Services in celebrating the 10th Annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 18. Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), transit systems across the country are encouraging people to take public transportation and save money. Commuter Services will greet transit users and provide commuting information and giveaways at the Silver Spring and Friendship Heights Metrorail stations from 7 to 9 a.m. and the Shady Grove Metrorail Station at from 3 to 4 p.m. Stop by their table to learn more about Bikeshare, biking to Metro, other commuter choices, the guaranteed ride home program for transit users and bus schedules. Riding public transit can be an economical way to travel, particularly when gas prices are high. The latest APTA Transit Savings Report shows that a two person household that downsizes to one car can save – on the average – more than $9,569 a year.
