For Immediate Release: Thursday, January 14, 2016 County Executive Ike Leggett invites residents to a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the grand reopening of the Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) Twinbrook Branch, 202 Meadow Hall Drive, Rockville. The event will take place on Saturday, January 23 at 10 a.m. “I am looking forward to cutting the ribbon for the renewed Twinbrook Library,” said Leggett. “Residents can look forward to enjoying a bright updated building to access to a world of information including print material and technical and digital resources, all free of charge.” “I’m excited for everyone to see the newly refreshed Twinbrook branch awash in vibrant, welcoming colors and enjoy all the added features and services,” said MCPL Director Parker Hamilton. “The MCPL branch refresh program ensures that our libraries stay modern and current and the buildings’ infrastructures remain safe, efficient, and operationally effective.” “The innovative Library Refresh program enables us to make necessary improvements at many more libraries than a single new construction project would do,” said David Dise, director of County’s Department of General Services. “The Twinbrook project is the first of many to come. DGS is pleased to return this refreshed library to its dedicated patrons.” The renovations include enhanced preschool children’s space, two collaborative/conference spaces, an outdoor programming space, enhanced Wi-Fi, additional power outlets, and new technology to include a mobile device charging station, laptops for in-house and loan and a 3D printer. The library closed for the renovations on July 25, 2015. The cost for the Twinbrook Library refresh project is $1,010,255. Twinbrook Library is the first MCPL branch to be “refreshed” under the Library Refurbishment Level-of-Effort initiative in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP). This initiative provides the opportunity to implement focused capital improvements in a seven year rotation rather than waiting for 20-to 30-year cycle as was previously the case. The library will be open immediately following the ribbon cutting ceremony. For more information, visit the MCPL website at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/library. # # #
