Posted: November 14, 2016 Jingle Jubilee & Tree Lighting Welcome the holidays with a traditional tree lighting ceremony, holiday music and a special visit from Santa at Gaithersburg’s Jingle Jubilee. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the tree lighting ceremony. The festivities take place at the City Hall Concert Pavilion in Olde Towne on Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This joyous event, perfect for families with young children, features performances by Impact Dance Studio, Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church Canterbury Ringers, Gaithersburg High School Band, Pritchard Music Honors Brass Quintet, and Victor Litz Music. Costumed characters, festive giveaways and a magnificent tree lighting ceremony create a delightful holiday mood. Be sure to bring your camera to capture memorable holiday photos in our fun photo booth that includes props, and with Santa, Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. To keep things toasty at Jingle Jubilee, you can purchase sweet and savory treats and drinks as well as hot chocolate from the Gaithersburg Student Union. To support homeless veterans in Montgomery County, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) John M. Carter Post #9862 has partnered with the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless (MCCH), which provides emergency shelter to an average of 75 veterans annually. MCCH’s Operation Homecoming provides homeless Veterans with a safe, stable and affordable place to live. Donations, including food, toiletries and cleaning supplies, are being collected to assist Veterans with their move. A complete list is available here. Donations can be dropped off during the Jingle Jubilee event. Monetary donations are also being accepted, and will be used to purchase furniture, small kitchen appliances, linens, and household items. Checks can be written to either the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless or to the VFW. You may also “Adopt a Veteran” by creating a Welcome Home Kit, assembling ALL the necessary items and storing the kit until a veteran is ready to move into housing. For more information about drop-offs, tax deductible receipts, and creating a Welcome Home Kit, contact Martha Toquinto, VFW Post 9862, at 301-948-0781, mommaofamarine@yahoo.com or Debbie Ezrin, MCCH Director of Development and Communication, at 301-917-6644, dezrin@mcch.net. The City Hall Concert Pavilion is located at 31 South Summit Avenue. Admission to Jingle Jubilee is free. Be sure to dress warmly for this winter wonderland. Please note that should the event be cancelled due to inclement weather, the tree lighting only will take place on Monday, December 5 at 7 p.m.
