For Immediate Release: 10/12/2015 Silver Spring Library to Launch New Author Series The Silver Spring Library will launch its New Author Series on Thursday, October 29 with acclaimed journalist Nazila Fathi who will discuss her new book, “The Lonely War: One Woman’s Account of the Struggle for Modern Iran.” The discussion will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the third floor of the library, located at 900 Wayne Ave. The author series is sponsored by the Silver Spring Library; the Friends of the Library, Silver Spring Chapter; and the Library Advisory Committee, to showcase new authors to the community. Fathi interweaves her story with that of the country she left behind, showing how Iran is locked in a battle between hardliners and reformers that dates back to the country’s 1979 revolution. Drawing on more than two decades of reporting and extensive interviews with both ordinary Iranians and high-level officials before and since her departure, Fathi describes Iran’s awakening alongside her own, revealing how moderates are steadily retaking the country. She will be joined in conversation with journalist, author and former NPR correspondent, Eric Weiner. A book signing will follow the discussion. Refreshments and snacks will be served.
