Posted on: May 1, 2017 May is Bike Month in Rockville: Here’s How to Head Out for a Spin Bike to Work Day is May 19 and Features Two City of Rockville Pit Stops Rockville, Maryland, April 26 – Rockville celebrates National Bike Month in May with rides for cookies and in memoriam, bike safety checks and the annual Bike to Work Day. Tour de Cookie 7 a.m., Saturday, May 6 Meet at Johns Hopkins University Montgomery County Campus, 9601 Medical Center Drive. Join the Tree House CAC for a 12-, 27- or 43-mile bike ride to collect cookies and enjoy the scenery, while raising awareness of child abuse prevention. Rockville Bicycle Advisory Committee will be supporting this ride with marshals and mechanics. Register to ride at www.tourdecookie.com. Bike Month Kickoff Ride 10 a.m., Sunday, May 7 Meet at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave. Join Rockville officials and neighbors to celebrate National Bike Month. Pedal a casual 6-mile loop along multi-use trails and quiet residential streets to explore some of the city’s extensive and diverse bicycling infrastructure. The route includes a few paths, bridges and tunnels. Bike to School Day Wednesday, May 10 Ritchie Park Elementary School celebrates the benefits of biking and walking to school during National Bike to School Day, along with communities, schools and families around the country. Learn more at www.walkbiketoschool.org. Rockville Bicycle Advisory Committee at the Farmers Market 10 a.m.-noon, Saturdays, May 13-July 29 Bring your bike to the farmers market for a safety check. (The market is in Rockville Town Center, at the corner of East Jefferson Street/MD 28 and Monroe Street.) Bring a helmet and bike for an hour-long police-escorted 10-mile ride through neighborhoods, as part of an international event that honors those killed or injured on a bicycle. Riders must be comfortable riding on the street with traffic and at about 10 mph. Check www.rideofsilence.org for additional information on this international event.
