Complementing the Thursday Morning Kids Concert series, the Gaithersburg Community Museum hosts “Discovery Thursdays,” featuring activities that reinforce the themes and performances from earlier that day. Discovery Thursdays take place through June and July between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and are appropriate for children ages 6 to 12. While the performances at the City Hall Concert Pavilion are free, admission is $3 per child for Discovery Thursdays at the Community Museum, unless otherwise noted. Materials are limited; pre-registration is recommended. This summer’s activities include: June 2 – Make a Sock Puppet Activity follows the Yosi Meets Eugene show. June 9 – Make a Hip Hop Wall Mural Activity follows the Christylez Bacon show. June 16 – Make Friendship Bracelets Activity follows the Mr. Jon & Friends show. June 23 – Make Toys for Shelter Animals (Free) Activity follows the Mutts Gone Nuts show. June 30 – Make a Mancala Game Board Activity follows the Lesole Dance show. July 7 – Make a Mardi Gras Mask Activity follows the Unified Jazz Ensemble show. July 14 – Make a Magic Money Machine Activity follows the Mark Jaster show. July 21 – Make Pan Pipes Activity follows the Gerdan show. July 28 – Make a Kalimba Activity follows the Anansegromma show. The Gaithersburg Community Museum is located at 9 South Summit Avenue. Regular museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with additional hours by appointment. Museum admission is free. For information contact the Gaithersburg Community Museum.
