Overview of the program
In January 2012, Ket Doan Association officially launched the Save a Child project. The purpose of this project is to provide financial support to impoverished children in Vietnam. Ket Doan Association and our partners will establish and maintain a year-long commitment to each individual. To ensure the dedicated resources are effectively utilized, the Association will require bi-monthly progress reports during the year long sponsorship. The sponsorship can be renewed on a yearly basis which is dependent on the progress and need of the child. Our goal is to build a successful program that will generate more funding in hopes of expanding our program to sponsor more individuals.
Organization and children selection process
Ket Doan Association sent out a proposal to several nonprofit organizations expressing our interest in the child sponsorship program. After receiving positive responses from the various organizations, we decided to partner with Love Across the Ocean (LATO). We decided to collaborate with LATO because their program was able to meet our requirements. Since then, LATO has provided us with a list of children, from age 6-18 along with their background information. We are pleased to announce the selection of two highly deserving children from the list. The selections were based on their financial and family situations as well as their exemplary status in school.
Selection
The Ket Doan Association’s “Save a Child” project is officially partnering with Love Across the Ocean (LATO) and have allowed us to sponsor two children from their LATO program. We are pleased to announce Nguyen Phuoc Thien and Le Minh Quoc Trung will be the first two recipients of the program. First Ket Doan Bowling Fundraising event!
Ket Doan would like to thank you our sponsors, donors, friends, players, and staffs for making the first annual bowling a successful one. We would like to inform you that we were able to raise $5,952.64 for “Save A Child” program. This fund will be 100% go toward sponsoring a child program. We are in process to select the child and we will have upcoming announcement soon. Our community stays strong because we encourage young people like Mary to stay dynamically committed to academic excellence and community service. And encourage Mary we did, thanks to friends like you and your
support for our Annual Academic Awards Picnic.
The Maryland Vietnamese Mutual Association invites you to invest in our future leaders by contributing to our 24th Annual Academic Awards Picnic. This much anticipated event will honor, celebrate and award hardworking Vietnamese American students, committed teachers, and involved parents in Montgomery County. The exciting event will be held June 3rd, 2012 from 11am to 2pm at Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm located at 506 S Frederick Ave, Gaithersburg, MD 20877.
Each year, every school in Montgomery County is given the opportunity to nominate their brightes Vietnamese American students from K-12. It is this tireless effort—tracking grades, examining extra-curricular activities, reviewing letters of recommendation—that makes this awards ceremony possible. In addition to awards, every year MVMA also provides $1,000 scholarships to two graduating seniors who have shown, through academic and volunteerism, their commitment to enriching the community through their pursuit of higher education. Our goal is simple: to nurture and empower a future generation of conscientious leaders.
Bright students don’t spring from the sky, however. It truly takes a village to raise a child. That’s why we honor and recognize the students’ teachers who have spent so much time encouraging these young people as well as their parents, without whose love and support the students would not have the energy or courage to drive forward.
Donations from supporters like you ensure that each nominated Vietnamese American student and influential teacher will be honored for their ongoing academic excellence. Note that the money raised at the picnic will go towards the picnic, awards, scholarships, and educational programs at MVMA. Thank you very much in advance for your contribution.
